My love for music took off in the 6th grade at St. Jude's School when I began playing the flute. After I moved from Tennessee to North Carolina and transferred schools halfway through the year, my new band director at Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School, Mr. Alan Kaufman, allowed me to take his trumpet home for the weekend to learn it. After that, to feed my musical passion and to challenge my instrumental abilities, I began learning the clarinet in 7th grade and it became my primary instrument. Since then, however, I have learned as many instruments as the various music departments have let me get my hands on!
I graduated from Glenbrook North High School in 2003. GBN offered a music program which encouraged me to take full advantage of my musical potential. Throughout my 4 years at GBN, I played in 8 different musical ensembles, playing a total of 10 different instruments. At my senior year Band Banquet in June of 2003, my band directors, Mr. Richard Chapman and Mr. Mark Running awarded me with the Semper Fideles award, which means "always faithful."
So far at UD, my performances include:
These days at UD, music keeps me busy, as usual. With hours of ensemble rehearsals each day, learning music therapy songs on guitar/piano, and taking melodic percussion lessons in mallet percussion, snare drum, timpani, and drumset, I always seem to be involved in something musical.
"An experience of a lifetime!" I am currently a member of the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps, based in Toledo, OH. The summer of 2006 will be my second season in the pit, or front ensemble. To read more about my Glassmen experience, check out my "Glassmen" page!
