    gem Meetings

    The Dayton Gem & Mineral Society meeting will be August 10 2010 at 7:00 PM at the BOONSHOFT MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY. Presentation: Agates (DVD/Show and Tell)

    The Dayton Gem & Mineral Society Meeting begins at 7:00 PM at the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. Address: 2600 Deweese Parkway, Dayton Ohio. phone 937-275-7431. Someone will be at the main door to direct you the meeting room.

    George Darner passed away July 5, 2010

    DARNER, George R. Jr. age 95 of Washington Twp. passed away Monday, July 5, 2010 at Sycamore Glenn Health Care facility. George retired from Standard Register Co. A life long member of the Centerville Lions Club, Dayton Gem & Mineral Society, Board member of the Lions Eye Bank, member of Stivers Alumni Association & trustee of Dayton Area Heart & Cancer Association. Preceded in death by his wife Luzie. He is survived by a daughter Evelyn (Philip) Petry, sons Ronald (Mary Anne) Darner & Larry (Sue) Darner & numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM with funeral services Friday at 1 PM at the Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd. ( St Rt # 725). Joyce Petry officiating. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Unless otherwise posted, field trips are open to paid Dayton Gem and Mineral Society members with MSHA certification. We will be collecting the DGMS $5.00 field trip fee, per member, at the quarry.
    MSHA CERTS REQUIRED! SAFETY GEAR: SAFETY GLASSES, HARD HATS, STEEL TOED SHOES ARE MANDATORY!
    Please have the MSHA Certs with you and all Safety Gear: glasses, hard hats, steel toed shoes. Bring any other items that you need such as other tools, drinks, snacks, etc.

    All of our members are enthusiasts of the natural world. Some collect minerals or fossils, or both. Some polish, facet, and mount their own gems. One teaches this skill. One member is associated with a local university.
