The Trotter Poll is a scientific poll which measures
public opinion in the Republic of Ruritania. It is conducted by Professor
Jon Kendlander, head of the Survey Research Center at Ruritanian National
University (RNU), located in the capital of Shanorewni. The Trotter Poll
is produced periodically during the year and at very frequent intervals
during elections. The poll provides information on opinions across the
entire country. Specific polls for particular electoral districts are generally
not done, although the SRC/RNU can do these polls but must charge for them.
(The data is then made available only to the organization swhich pay for
it).
The type of data collected and the methods of analysis used are exactly the same as those done by similar polling organizations in America (see for example: the National Opinion Research Center, the Roper Center, the Gallup Organization, or the National Election Studies). In order to make comparisons between public opinion in Ruritania and the United States, students should examine comparable questions in the MicroCase data sets.
The Trotter Poll generates responses to individual
questions as well as Distribution of Preference Maps which show how Ruritanians
are distributed along the left-right ideological spectrum.
