Magnet Investigation

Why were Magnets chosen for an investigation?

While in the beginning of my field experience and observing I saw how the children in the classroom interacted with magnets. The lead teacher was talking to one of the students while she was carrying a tin bucket and a magnet was sticking to the bucket. The student asked the teacher, "Why is that sticking?" Another student I observed was playing with magnetic trains, but he did not understand what was going on and why they were not sticking together. There are many different magnets around the room and magnets are a part of the students everyday life. Magnets can be found in each of the students' homes in one form or another. This is why we chose to start an investigation on magnets. Our hook activity also reinforced the decision to go through with the Magnet Investigation.
