Video versions of all six novels
will be
shown during designated
class sessions. Parts of the mini-series of The Shining will be compared to the 1980 Kubrick film,
and a few scenes from the 2002 TV remake of Carrie will be compared to the 1976 DePalma film. Selected Stephen King interviews and
commentaries
will also be shown and discussed.
Course Description:
This film and literature course will
focus on representative works of Stephen King and their
adaptation--successful and otherwise--to the screen. The works have
been selected to show the various levels of involvement King has had in
the production of particular films based on them.
Evaluation Procedures:
One short paper, three quizzes, the
last
of which will be the final examination, drills, and class participation.
The novels and the videos will be treated
in the order listed above. The class meets on Mondays
from 3:00-5:30 p.m. at Arts Street, Studio B. Regular attendance is
expected
throughout the
term.
