Communication Concentration Requirements

 

In the Department of Communication there is only one major – Communication.  Within that major there are four concentrations.  The four concentrations are:

 

Communication Management

Public Relations

Journalism

Electronic Media

 

All Communication majors – regardless of their concentration take four common courses.  Those four common courses are:

 

  1. Communication Modules (CMM 110, CMM 111 or CMM 112, and CMM 113)
  2. CMM 201 – Foundations of Mass Communication
  3. CMM 202 – Foundations of Communication Theory & Research
  4. CMM 330 – Media Writing

 

Students in the Communication Management concentration must take the following 4 courses:

 

CMM 320 – Interpersonal Communication

CMM 321 – Small Group Communication

CMM 412 – Statistical Methods in Communication

CMM 421 – Communication in Organizations

 

Students in the Communication Management concentrating must take 2 of the following 6 courses:

 

CMM 322 – Interviewing for Communication and Business

CMM 351 – Public Speaking

CMM 352 – Persuasion

CMM 413 – Communication in the Information Age

CMM 420 – Communication and Conflict management

CMM 498 – Communication Internship

 

Students must complete an additional 3 Communication and/or theater courses. 

 

Note:  Dance courses will not count toward this requirement.
