Communication Concentration Requirements

 

In the Department of Communication there is only one major – Communication.  Within that major there are four concentrations.  The four concentrations are:

 

Communication Management

Public Relations

Journalism

Electronic Media

 

All Communication majors – regardless of their concentration take four common courses.  Those four common courses are:

 

Communication Modules (CMM 110, CMM 111 or CMM 112, and CMM 113)

CMM 201 – Foundations of Mass Communication

CMM 202 – Foundations of Communication Theory & Research

CMM 330 – Media Writing

 

Students in the Electronic Media concentration must take the following three courses:

 

CMM 340 – Fundamentals of Broadcasting

CMM 343 – Scriptwriting for Electronic Media

CMM 397 – Communication Practicum

 

Students in the Electronic Media concentration must take 1 of the following 3 courses:

 

CMM 341 – Audio Production

CMM 342 – Fundamentals of Video Production

CMM 344 – Multimedia Design & Production I

 

Students in the Electronic Media concentration must take 2 of the following 8 courses:

 

CMM 345 – Classic American Film

CMM 414 – Global Communication

CMM 440 – Broadcast News

CMM 442 – Advanced Television Production

CMM 444 – Multimedia Design & Production II

CMM 446 – Electronic Media Management

CMM 449 – Topics in Electronic Media

CMM 498 – Communication Internship

 

Students must complete an additional 3 Communication and/or theater courses. 

 

Note:  dance courses will not count toward this requirement.
