Communication Concentration Requirements

 

In the Department of Communication there is only one major – Communication.  Within that major there are four concentrations.  The four concentrations are:

 

Communication Management

Public Relations

Journalism

Electronic Media

 

All Communication majors – regardless of their concentration take four common courses.  Those four common courses are:

 

  1. Communication Modules (CMM 110, CMM 111 or CMM 112, and CMM 113)
  2. CMM 201 – Foundations of Mass Communication
  3. CMM 202 – Foundations of Communication Theory & Research
  4. CMM 330 – Media Writing

 

Students in the Public Relations concentration must take the following 4 courses:

 

CMM 360 – Principles of Public Relations

CMM 412 – Statistical Methods in Communication

CMM 460 – Public Relations Writing

CMM 461 – Public Relations Campaigns

 

Students in the Public Relations concentration must take 2 of the following 6 courses:

 

CMM 331 – Feature Writing

CMM 332 – Publication Design

CMM 421 – Communication in Organizations

CMM 430 – Copyediting

CMM 469 – Topics in Public Relations

CMM 498 – Communication Internship

 

Students must complete an additional 3 Communication and/or theater courses. 

 

Note:  dance courses will not count toward this requirement.
