Each student will write a 8-10 page
research paper focusing on some
important aspect of the History of the Caribbean through a
concrete historical
analysis. Any topic is open. Examples of BROAD ideas
could include:
Conquest of the Caribbean using the Las Casas text (among others)
Slave Trade
Cuban or Haitian Independence Movements
Jose Marti, Che Guevara, etc.
Women in the Caribbean
You get the idea. JUST MAKE SURE YOU NARROW THE TOPIC TO BE ABLE TO WRITE ABOUT IT IN ONLY 8-10 pages
The paper will use primary (when available) and secondary resources, be written using the Chicago style footnotes, and argue a clear central thesis.
There are four primary goals in this project:
1.) To explore a topic in detail on Caribbean history
2.) To build basic research, analysis, and communication
skills.
3.) To explore historical concepts.
4.) To build confidence in using, analyzing, and building
resources
as part of the educational experience of history students.
TERM PAPER PROPOSAL
On the due date, you must hand in a term paper proposal with the following parts:
1. Preliminary Title of Project
2. Brief paragraph explaining why you are interested in the project; what you hope to learn; and how it relates to the course.
3. Bibliography containing AT LEAST 5-7
PRINTED
sources. One or two additional web resources are also
acceptable.
