      Objective
This course is separate from the
Geo 201 lecture, but I strongly recommend that you take both courses. Geology and environmental geology majors are required to take both courses. You will be learning skills in scientific methodology, hand specimen identification, and optical methods.

      Attendance
You are expected to attend all lab sessions. Attendance will be taken daily. Arriving late to class is distracting to students and professor and will be counted as an absence. Do not schedule medical appointments that conflict with the class schedule. A written medical excuse must be submitted if you cannot attend class due to illness. Do not purchase tickets for transportation that conflict with official school days. There are no make-up labs except in extraordinary circumstances.

      Evaluation
All students should be aware of the University policy on academic dishonesty, which in part is defined as "any attempt by a student to obtain, or to assist another student to obtain, a grade higher than honestly earned."
All the lab write-ups taken together will make up 50% of your mark. I will drop the lowest lab grade. There will be no makeup lab times except in extraordinary circumstances.
There will be a short quiz at the beginning of almost every laboratory session. All the quizzes together will make up 10% of your mark. I will drop the lowest quiz grade. There will be no makeup lab quizzes.

      Overall Evaluation:
Lab reports (about 8) 55% of your grade
      Mineral ID exam 25 %
      Quizzes 10 %
      Final Exam
      Last 4 labs only
      10 %

Final Note: Dates, assignments, and policies are subject to change during the course of the semester.
