Conrad E. L'Heureux
Short Bio:

Conrad L'Heureux received his Ph. D. from Harvard University in 1972, in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures. His dissertation Rank Among the Canaanite Gods deals with philological and historical questions in Canaanite religion and the Hebrew Bible. In the 1980s he began to investigate Jungian psychology as a tool for interpreting mythology, including stories found in the Bible. He completed a Master's degree in Counseling and intensive training in Gestalt Therapy. This psychological orientation led to the creation of what is now his major course: REL 377: The Inner Journey in Myth, Bible and Literature. The course has a strong experiential component which encourages students to actually take steps on their own journeys as they reflect upon the narrative material which is studied during the semester. In his teaching he emphasizes a holistic perspective with special focus on the role of somatic awareness in spiritual and psychological growth. Conrad's most recent interest is in theater. He is currently exploring ways in which drama, performance, and creative writing contribute to the discovery and manifestation of previously unrecognized aspects of the self, and thus promote the continuing (and often surprsing) process of personal growth.
Conrad's wife, Susan L'Heureux, is a Professor of Developmental Studies at Sinclair Community College. They live in Oakwood, Ohio and also have a summer cabin in the Rocky Mountains northwest of Boulder, Colorado. Their son David lives in Vail, Colorado. When he is not on the slopes snowboarding, he is an assistant manager at Garfinkle's pub and eatery. Their daughter Suzie is married to Tony Miller. The couple lives in San Francisco where Tony works as a Mechanical Engineer. Suzie works with the sales staff at Franklin Bowles Gallery and also pursues her own artistic creativity, especially as a painter.
