Mission Statement:

"TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES TO EVERYONE, IN COOPERATION WITH THE COMMUNITY IN A PARTNERSHIP OF EQUALITY AND INTEGRITY, IN A SPIRIT OF UNITY AND MUTUAL TRUST"

Glencoe's Background:

Glencoe is a well-established (incorporated in 1869) and fully-developed residential suburban community 15 miles north of Chicago on Lake Michigan. The current population is 8,500 and the Village is about four square miles in area consisting of considerable open space (parks, forest preserves, and golf courses) with large lots for about 3,000 predominately single-family homes. Glencoe has two small business districts and no industry. The Village of Glencoe in 1954 formed the first combined Public Safety Department in Illinois. It is the first fully integrated department in the nation to be accredited by both CALEA (Police) and CFAI (Fire). All 35 sworn members are cross trained and state certified. In 2003, they responded to 7357 police calls, 1752 fire calls and 484 ambulance requests.
