Catalog Description:

The purposes, types, organization, administration and evaluation of events. These relate to sport, facility and community environments.

Course Objectives

The student will obtain:

 Knowledge:
 1.  Understand the overall aspects of event management.

 2.  Become acquainted with the financial ramifications of staging an event.

3. Know the various groups needed to support an event

4. Comprehend the principles of promotion and marketing of an event. 

Skills
 1.  Have the ability to plan an event.

  2. Be capable of organizing an event.

  3. Have the aptitude to evaluate an event.

Attitudes:
1.Understand the importance of teamwork.

2. Create, develop and evaluate events.

3. Participate with members of the class in a group project.

4. Participate in class discussions concerning event management.

General Rule: Make-ups will not be given and all materials handed in late will be subject to a penalty of 50% of points for each day assignment is overdue.

Exception to the General Rule: In the case of documented illness or personal emergency

Attendance Policy:

Students are expected to attend and participate in class discussions and activities. Students who are excused from class meetings or activities are responsible for making arrangements with the professor to make up their work.

Academic Dishonesty Policy

According to the Department of Health and Sport Science Student Handbook.

Provisions for Students with special needs:

Any student requiring extra time or help with assignments or class work should speak directly with the professor during the first full week of class. (Do not wait till assignments are past due for provisions or accommodations to be made.)

Chapter Presentation- Chapter Quiz

Groups will be informed of their assigned chapter’s early in the semester.  The presentations must NOT be a regurgitation of the chapter.  These presentations are to help better understand the information through involvement, rather than through lecture only, this will be a 35-minute presentation. 

Group must develop a quiz that will be taken class before the presentation.  Each quiz will be worth 20 points.

1.  The creation, distribution, grading and returning of the quiz.

2.  A self-evaluation of the presentation (If you score your evaluation with in 2 points of Doc T you will gain 5 extra points, and if you score your evaluation 3 points over Doc T you lose 5 points and you do you get the same score as what Doc T gave you!) 

3.  Dr. Titlebaum will also do an evaluation on the presentation. 

PRESENTATIONS

 (5 minutes)

It is highly recommended that you meet with Doc T 10 days prior to the group presentation to go over quiz and presentation draft.  

Class Project

This project will be with club sports, we will be running a teambuilding event on Sunday April 14th.

Group Project

Each group will run event during the semester and will make a manual so if someone else wanted to run this event they would know what to do.
