Enter Logon (User) Name [your common user name] and Password [your common password].

These are what you use to check your Lotus Notes e-mail through the network. If you do not remember these go to the computer help desk in Miriam Hall 53 with your student ID and you will be given the username and password.
Click "Log On".
Double Click on EIT 109.
Double Click on "Participating in Live Sessions" to view a short streaming video on the features of the Chat Room.
If EIT 109 is not running, simply follow the directions on this webpage.

The LearningSpace5 Client will download on to your computer. You need to do this to participate in the Chat Room (and you should only have to do it once). If you are working over a phone line, this may take 10 minutes. So you might want to do this sometime before the Chat Room is scheduled.
The Chat Room will open automatically 1/2 hour before the Chat Room is scheduled to begin.

If you try to enter the Chat Room before this 1/2 hour period, the chat screen may not open automatically. If the chat screen does not appear, shut down your browser and reenter the Chat Room during this 1/2 hour period.

You may have to click "Yes" on the security warning.
It may take a couple of minutes for the Chat Room screen to open.
If the Chat Room screen over runs the edges of your monitor go to the top left-hand corner of the screen and click on the IE icon and then click on "Maximize."

Click on the "Chat" tab at the bottom of the screen.
You may have to catch the bottom line of the screen with the double arrow and move it up so that the "Chat" feature will appear.
Type your comment in the narrow "Message" line at the bottom of the screen and click "Send" or press "Enter".
Your name will automatically appear next to your comment in the upper box.

Click "X" in the upper right-hand corner to exit

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE CHAT ROOMS (LIVE SESSIONS).

1. Students' name will be registered automatically.
2. Comments need not be lengthy but they should be substantive. You may want to enter your comments in pieces (i.e., clauses) instead of long comments all at once. This will let others know you are contributing and that they should look for more.
3. Students will earn ten (10) extra-credit points for substantially contributing to the Chat Room.
4. A substantial contribution is NOT merely logging on to the Chat Room and sitting there. There has to be ACTIVE participation to earn the 10 extra credit points..
5. The Chat Rooms are password protected but you know how hackers are; anyone might be able to read what you say. This includes someone from Bangladesh, the Vatican, or your parents, or your physician, your boss, or your sixth grade teacher. Speak honestly but not offensively.
6. Be challenging to everyone in the group --- as well as me!
