TOPICS OF THE CHAT ROOMS WILL BE DETERMINED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE.
[Because of a new program for LearningSpace5, access to the chat rooms may change slightly, by the time the course begins, from those specified below.]

WHAT IS A CHAT ROOM (LIVE SESSION)?

A Chat Room (Live Session) allows students to interact with each other over the computer in real time. To participate in a Chat Room all the participants must be on line at the same time. To participate in the Chat Rooms check the schedule below for the approriate date and time.  Then follow the "Guidelines for Participating in the Chat Rooms (Live Sessions)." Note that the Chat Rooms (Live Sessions) will be conducted using LearningSpace5.

Use MS Internet Explorer.
Enter the address <learn.udayton.edu> or CLICK HERE after you have read the rest of these instructions.
Click on "Login - Student".
Enter Logon (User) Name [flyernet name] and Password [the randomly selected letters that were assigned].

Double Click on the course (MBA 652 - Social Responsibility and Ethical Dimensions of Management).
Double click on the appropriate (Topic and Date) Chat Room.

On the right of the screen there will be instructions to download the LearningSpace5 Client. You need to do this to participate in the Chat Room (and you only have to do it once). If you are working over a phone line, this may take 10 minutes. So you might want to do this sometime before the Chat Room is scheduled.

The Chat Room door will swing open automatically 1/2 hour before the Chat Room is scheduled to begin.
You may have to click "Yes" on the security warning.
It may take a couple of minutes for the Chat Room screen to open.

Click on the "Chat" tab.
Type your comment in the "Message" block at the bottom of the screen and click "Send" or press "Enter".
Your name will automatically appear next to your comment in the upper box.
You will see a tab called "Message to Instructor". Click on this tab only to send a private message to the instructor. This message will not appear on the general chat screen.
Click "X" to exit

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF THE CHAT ROOMS (LIVE SESSIONS).

1. Students' name will be registered automatically.
2. Comments need not be lengthy but they should be substantive. You may want to enter your comments in pieces (i.e., clauses) instead of long comments all at once. This will let others know you are contributing and that they should look for more.
3. A substantial contribution is NOT merely logging on to the Chat Room and sitting there. There has to be ACTIVE participation to earn credit for participating in the Chat Room.
4. The Chat Rooms are password protected but you know how hackers are; anyone might be able to read what you say. This includes someone from Bangladesh, the Vatican, or your parents, or your physician, or your sixth grade teacher. Speak honestly but not offensively.
5. Be challenging to everyone in the group --- as well as me!
