Steve Zabarnick, Ph.D.

This is the home page of Steve Zabarnick. I'm a Research Chemist for the University of Dayton Research Institute working at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Penn State University and a B.S. in Chemistry from Binghamton University. I do research in the fields of chemical kinetics, fuels and combustion.chemistry, and laser diagnostics. Here is a list of my research publications.

I recently won the prestigious 1997-98 Wohlleben-Hochwalt Outstanding Professional Research Award from my employer (UDRI). Here is the official press release.

My wife, Kathy Webb, is a librarian and Head of Client Services (AKA, very important person) at the University of Dayton Library. And, Sarah is our beautiful little daughter. Lately, I have been spending a lot of my spare time brewing beer and obsessing about golf, that is when Sarah and Kathy let me.

I'm the caretaker of the web page of our local homebrew club, DRAFT. The best online source of information on brewing is The Brewery. My beers have done well in competitions, and I enjoy learning more about brewing and using my chemistry knowledge to increase my understanding of the process. Download my Filemaker Pro BrewingDatabase Macintosh version or Windows version. Here is a hydrometer correction graph for correcting hydrometer readings for temperature (60 to 200 F).

Another hobby is playing with computers. I've been a Macintosh enthusiast for a while and more recently have been having fun exploring the wacky world of unix. But I recently purchased a Windows machine so I'm playing around with the "Dark Side."

My latest obsession is GOLF. Please help me either play better or quit this nightmare of a game! By the way, that picture of me above was taken about seven years ago. I'm MUCH grayer now.

I've been a long time Grateful Dead fan (since 1977), but Jerry's passing has forced me to explore other musical styles such as jazz. Fortunately, David Grisman is still around playing great music.
